Episode 336: Balancing Your Business and Family as a Virtual Assistant
In this episode of the Virtual Assistant Mama podcast, I’m sharing how to balance your business and family life as a Virtual Assistant.
Throughout my journey as a business coach for teachers, I’ve come across countless women who see investing in themselves and their business as “throwing money away” rather than a means to save them time in building their new freelancing/virtual assistant business.
That’s why, on today’s episode of Ditch the Classroom, we’re talking about the importance of investing in your business, and how doing so will allow you to reach your goals of leaving teaching faster and spend more time with your children as a work at home mom.

(00:07):
In today’s episode of the Ditch the Classroom podcast, we are talking about the importance of investing in your business. When I was first starting my business, the thought of investing money into it really – I’m not gonna lie – scared me. But that it’s very crucial to growing a successful business. There’s a saying that it takes money to make money and while that’s not always true, it is very helpful and something that a lot of people try to skip.
(03:04):
And then it just takes you a really long time. So something that I’ve heard that’s super applicable is that nothing is ever good, cheap and fast. It can only be too out of those three. So if something is cheap and good, it’s not going to be fast. If something is good and fast, it’s not going to be cheap. So with starting your own freelancing business, you can go the DIY route to learn how to start your freelancing business. But you’re probably going to make a lot more mistakes that those who have gone before you could help you avoid. So when you’re investing in your business, you can invest two things: money and/or time. If you wanna save time and replace your income faster. So you can ditch the classroom (like I know you do otherwise, you wouldn’t be listening to this episode) then you’re going to need to invest in the skills to do it faster with less mistakes.
(04:06):
So when you’re thinking about investing in yourself to gain the skills needed to create your business or expand it, there’s a wrong way to look at it and then there’s a better or way. The wrong way is when you think, “Okay, I’m investing this money. That means I’m losing this money.” That’s not true. When you’re investing in your business, most of the time, if you put in the time and energy to back-up that investment, you are going to make your investment back. So when you’re thinking about it, you kind of need to do like a mindset switch. Where, when I invest in my business, I’m building the skills or learning the tools necessary to make back my investment 100% or more. So most of the time your investment is going to come back to you even more than what you originally invested.
(05:07):
Take a shot for how many times I say invested in this episode. But when you invest to learn new tools, systems, strategies, skills, whatever, you’ll be able to use those things to take you to the next level in your business. So it’s allowing you to save your time, which, you know, if you’re still in the classroom and thinking about ditching the classroom, you need to save time because you don’t necessarily have a lot of time to spend learning how to do everything in your business after you get out of teaching. And/or maybe you wanna really save your time to spend with your kids. And that’s the most important thing to you. So to learn how to run a business outside of the education system, you need somebody to help teach you how to do these things faster. So shameless plug time, my Teacher Turned Freelancer Academy is currently open for enrollment.
(06:11):
This program has eight modules filled with videos, workbooks templates, systems, and tools to help you ditch the classroom and start your freelancing journey so you can work from home and spend more time with your babies. Each module in this program has multiple short videos. So they’re not too time-consuming to work through. It has workbooks to help you implement the trainings in the videos. I have templates for you to use in your business, systems tools to help you, templates to help you when you’re applying to different positions, how to frame your wording when you’re applying, basically everything you can think of along with the eight main modules. There are bonus modules, one of which is my favorite, and it will teach you basic freelancing skills so that you can start offering services faster and feel more confident in those skills. So some examples of the trainings in this bonus training module is Pinterest management, email management, social media management.
(07:27):
And there’s a couple more. On top of that, we also have our private community where you can receive ongoing support from me. Also build relationships with other women like you, who are on this journey. This is your place to ask all of your questions and get your answers and not feel like you’re alone on this journey. This is your chance to get in at the lowest this course will ever be again. Price will be going up once the cart closes. There are payment plans to make this even more affordable for you. And I just want everybody to be able to take this step. If you realize the importance of investing in yourself and in your business so that you can ditch the classroom.
