I have a question for you before we dive in, are you afriad that you don’t have any skills to become a virtual assistant? Are you a teacher? And you think you only have skills in the teaching space, they can’t be transferred elsewhere.
(01:59):
Where are you at with that? I’m willing to bet that you’re feeling stuck and like you have nothing to offer because I felt that way. So many of my students have felt that way, but it is not true. And so in this episode, I’m going to be walking you through my 10 step skills quiz to see if you have skills that could help you become a virtual assistant. So grab a sheet of paper, and I want you to put a yes or no next to these different 10 steps skills that I’m going to ask you before I do that, hint – you don’t need to answer a yes to all of them, but this is just going to give you a good heads up of where you can start. What’s really interesting you, and you can use those skills in the virtual assistant world. So number one, the biggest skill that you need as a virtual assistant is the willingness to learn.
(03:02):
You don’t have to have an understanding of how to do everything right out the gate. You just have to have the willingness to figure it out. Use Google, go to Google University. That’s what I like to call it. Watch tutorial videos. When I was learning how to be a website designer, I went to YouTube and watched a tutorial video for how to build my own website. I never took a course to help me learn the design side of my website design business. I did take a course to learn like how to run the business piece, but I didn’t take – I just watched free YouTube tutorials to learn the actual skill, but I had that willingness to learn. And then also you can ask questions. So if you get a client, who’s like, can you do this? Can you take this over for me?
(03:48):
Maybe they’ve already been doing it in their business, but they just need it off their plate. You can be honest and say, I’m not familiar with that before. I’ve done this that’s kind of similar. I’d love to learn. Would you be willing for me to ask a couple questions as I’m going to just learn? Or maybe they’ll record a quick tutorial video for you. That’ll take them like five minutes. You just have to have that willingness to learn guys. That’s all you need. Number two, do you have a love of helping others? Do you want to help others in their business and really serve business owners who have a mission that you so fully believe in? If you’re a teacher, I know that you love helping others. So can you frame it in this way that you’re going to be helping businesses grow and push out their mission that you so fully believe in to more people. Number three, customer service skills. As teachers, as moms, we have amazing customer service skills, ’cause we are really good at keeping everybody happy. And so this is something that you do with your clients. If they have a concern or something that comes up or not even a concern, like if you have a potential client – as a teacher, you are so amazing at just setting up a whole process for your potential client to go through, to see if they want to work with you. That shows you have amazing customer service skills. You’re gonna treat them the best from the very beginning. So you can definitely use those skills from teaching as a virtual assistant. Number four is time management. As teachers, we are amazing at juggling all of the things and as moms as well, and that needs to be taken over into your virtual assistant business.
(05:48):
You’re gonna be juggling multiple clients. You’re going to be running your own business and have tasks you need to do each day. So you have to be really good at managing your time, finding the pockets in the day that you can work juggling your business around your kids’ lives. So this is another skill, put a yes or a no if you have it on your paper. Do you have time management skills? Right, now we’re gonna get kind of into some of the like actual service skills. So number five, do you know how to check emails? You could be an administrative virtual assistant. A lot of people start out with this and you could check emails for your clients. Book travel for them, do data entry, those types of things. You don’t have to be a pro and you can figure that out and you already know how to do a lot of them probably.
(06:39):
So put a yes or no by that one. Do you know how to check emails? Number six, do you know how to use social media? Maybe you don’t know how to use it for a business, but it’s not that different. And you can learn how to help businesses promote themselves on the different platforms. It’s really not too hard. I promise you so it a yes or no by this. Number seven, do you know how to write? You could be what’s called a copywriter. C-O-P-Y-W-R-I-T-E-R. I don’t know why they call it this, but that’s what the term is in the virtual assistant world. But copywriter do any form of writing you see in the business. So they might write the emails. They might write the blog posts. They might write the written content you see on a website, the social media posts.
(07:27):
If you love to write, this is your area you might wanna get into. Number eight, do you know how to create presentations? You could be a course creator for your clients and help them package all of their content in their course into beautiful presentations that they would then turn into their Evergreen or whatever course. Number nine. Do you have a good design eye? Again, remember I said, you’re not gonna say yes to all of these that’s okay, but this one’s a popular one. Do you have a good design eye? Would you like to create graphics for people for their social media accounts? Would you like to design websites? Would you like to create logos and branding? Does that sound fun to you? Write a yes or no. Number 10. Are you good at figuring out new technology? Again, you don’t have to be a pro in it already, but can you figure things out when they’re thrown on your plate?
(08:26):
Do you like figuring out new technology, is my question. Put a yes or no. All right. Let me recap what these were. Number one, you need to have a willingness to learn. That’s the number one skill you need to be a virtual assistant. Number two. You need to have a love for helping others. Number three, you have amazing customer service skills. I know you do if you’re a teacher. Number four time management. We are awesome at that. And then we get into the services. Number five, do you know how to check emails? Number six, do you know how to use social media? Number seven, do you know how to write? Number eight, do you know how to create presentations? Number nine, do you have a good design eye? And number 10, are you good at figuring out new technology? If any of these you put “yes” by for the services and you wanna learn more about what it takes to be that type of virtual assistant. I have a whole entire series on this podcast. It’s called the Virtual Assistant Services Series. And in those episodes, I’m taking a more in-depth look at what the services are that you can offer as a virtual assistant, what that entails from you, who would be good at it and all of that. So if you’re interested in that a really easy way to find them is to go to our free Facebook community, facebook.com/groups/ditchtheclassroom, join it. In there, we have a link to our podcast catalog, where I have every episode organized for you by topic. And you can also search keywords. And that’ll tell you if there’s episodes regarding those keywords. And so you can go in there and find out exactly what episodes you are interested in listening to, because I know there’s a lot on the podcast can be hard to find specific ones.
(10:13):
So I created this podcast catalog for you. So again, go to our free Facebook community and you can find that link. Another thing, if you don’t really know how to do these things, but you have that willingness to learn. We have a whole entire unit in the Teacher Turned Freelancer Academy where I teach you how to offer these different services. So, even if you don’t know it yet, you can join TTFA and you will learn. You can watch any of the tutorials that you’re interested in. Then you can start offering those services to your clients. That is probably my favorite unit in the program, because it just gives you that confidence to start going out there and looking for clients because you know how to offer these services now. So if that interests, you go to teacherturnedfreelancer.com, check out everything that’s in the program, all the accountability you’re gonna get all the ongoing support, the templates, the tools, trainings, everything you need to become a virtual assistant is in TTFA. Go to teacherturnedfreelancer.com. All right, come in the Facebook group. Let me know how many of these did you answer “yes” to, what services really would interest you to offer as a virtual assistant, where do you feel like you’re still stuck in feeling afraid to become a virtual assistant. I am more than happy to help you work through that fear. So again, facebook.com/groups/ditchtheclassroom. It’s where you can come and share that. And I would be so happy to help you. All right. Y’all I love you so much and we will see you next time.
