Episode 123: 2 Secrets I’ve Learned From 2 Years of Podcasting, Plus a Giveaway!

You guys! I cannot believe we are celebrating two years of the Ditch the Classroom podcast. It’s crazy to think that that much time has passed because it feels like I just started this yesterday, but I also feel like I’ve learned so much just in that two years of podcasting. And I wanted to share with y’all two secrets that I’ve really uncovered in this two years being here. And another bonus for y’all in this episode is I’m gonna have a fun giveaway for you guys that I’m gonna share more details with you about at the end. So make sure you stick around for that. But we’re just gonna go ahead and jump right in.

So secret number one, (not-so-secret secret) is that the level of scariness moves. Back when I was first starting this podcast, it sounded terrifying to be a podcaster. I didn’t know what that was gonna entail. I thought it was gonna take, you know, hours and hours to produce just one episode. I thought it was just gonna be a ton of work and that’s not the case, but that’s just how it felt back then. And it didn’t change until I started doing it. So that’s one thing that I really want y’all to understand is if something scares you just take that first step, because you’ll be surprised by how quickly the thing that used to terrify you becomes easy and routine in your life and it ends up only taking you, you know, an hour or two out of your week. It’s not that scary. It seems like it upfront, but you just have to take that first step of faith. Okay.

Secret number two is that consistency is your friend. You’ve gotta show up. You’ve gotta do the work. You’ve gotta answer questions, provide value. You never know who is watching. When I first started podcasting, you guys, there were not that many of y’all hanging out listening. We got about 250 downloads a month, which at the beginning I was happy with, but now we get over 2000 a month and we’re on track to hit 25,000 this year and have almost 100 women in the Teacher Turned Freelancer Academy. Again, that didn’t happen right away. It took time and it took consistency and dedication on my end to show y’all that I was gonna be here showing up for you each and every week. So that is something crucial that I want you to understand is that you have to be consistent and you might not see a return on your time right away, but just keep going.

You never know what is going to be the tipping point. And just ask yourself if I stopped working towards my goals today, what if I was going to hit that goal tomorrow, but I stopped today? Okay. So just think about that for a second real quick. Let me recap for you both secrets. The first one is that the level of scariness moves. Just take that step of faith. It’ll be all right. And then secret number two is that you need to be consistent in order to reach your goals. Don’t give up. Even when you feel like nobody is watching.
