How to live your dream life as a work-at-home mom

Full Episode Transcription:

(00:07):
Hello, hello everyone! Welcome back to the Ditch the Classroom podcast. In today’s episode, we’re talking about something that I think is really important that a lot of people do and they don’t necessarily realize that they do. And it’s that you put off living your dream life. You think that you have to achieve these certain goals to be able to spend more time with your family, to be able to work your own schedule.

(02:56):
You just kind of put it off, put it off and say, “this will happen WHEN I can start living my dream life, WHEN . . .” I want you to remember that life is not about reaching for the next goal. It’s not about reaching a certain destination. Life’s about the journey. There’s this quote. And I’m probably gonna butcher it because I didn’t add it into my notes, but life is not all about the beginning date of your life – so your birth date and your death date. Life is about that little dash in the middle. That little dash is everything. So it’s really important that you take the time to enjoy and celebrate the little moments in life. You wanna make sure you’re celebrating each and every little milestone that you hit along the way and designing your life the way you want it now rather than, “oh, I’ll have that when I hit this certain goal”, or whatever. So. I want you to go ahead and close your eyes and take a moment to imagine your dream life. What would you do each day? Who would you spend time with? What are your hobbies? What do you do on the weekends?

(04:21):
Take some time to think about that for a minute. And then when you’re ready, you can open your eyes. And I want you to think about, where can you find little moments throughout the week to live your dream life now? So if you’re wanting to ditch the classroom and you’re wanting to spend more time at home with your babies, but maybe a couple days a week, you are really wanting to be able to go work from your favorite coffee shop and just enjoy a little bit of quiet with your favorite coffee and, bagel in hand, and work from there. Can you start doing that now? Could you have somebody watch the kids on a Saturday morning? Just so you can go sit at your favorite coffee shop with your favorite coffee and bagel in hand, and work from your laptop just for a couple hours on a Saturday morning.

(05:23):
If your dream life has you spending a whole bunch of days at the beach with your kids all the time, can you do that now? Like once a month with your kids? Is there a local lake or beach that you can go to now and start living that dream life? Now, I wanna encourage you to take the time to enjoy the little moments. Start living your dream life. And you’ll really be surprised how much faster things change once you start living that life more and more each day. So if you’re already getting these little bite-size pieces of your dream life now, you’re gonna be searching for ways you can incorporate that more and more. And that’s gonna help you take the steps that you need to take to get out of the classroom and really chase this dream that God has placed in your heart. This is something that my business coach taught me when I was first starting this journey, is it’s not about reaching for that end destination and having that dream then. It’s about having it now. So yes, you still have all these responsibilities probably in the classroom with your kids, but I want you to just really, really take the time to think about where can I have these little tiny nuggets of my dream life now.
